Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles #2)

Author: Marissa Meyer
Goodreads rating: 4.31
Pages: 452
Format: Finished Copy
Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison--even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

The second installment of the Lunar Chronicles!! I love love love love love it!

Still 100% love her using fairy tales as a springboard for her stories :) This time we travel with Scarlet as she searches for her missing grandmother. We see a mysterious guy, Wolf, who may have the secrets to her grandmother's whereabouts. Then we cut to Cinder, escaping from jail and bringing a handsome Thorne in her side (if you read it you will get it) with her. They travel in search of answers to the Princess Selene.

That's really all I can say without giving away too much. But if you liked the first book, you will definitely love this one :)

I loved the Wolf/Scarlet combo! Though they did seem to start to fall for each other a little too quick in my opinion... and Scarlet mentions it a lot in the book ("We've known each other less than a day, I shouldn't be feeling like this" kind of expressions... a lot), but their relationship seemed kind of "love at first sight" kind of thing that usually doesn't sit right with me. But this did not take away my love for their relationship :) Just wish I could have seen more of them getting to know each other instead of the weird sexual tension.

Plot-wise, there are a WHOLE lot of messed up stuff that goes on that will leave you in shock, awe or a combination of the two. This was a book I always hated to put down (because of silly things like eating, sleeping, and working...) and was so excited to get back into :)

Overall, the book gets 4.5/5 stars for me, mostly because of the rush with Wolf/Scarlet's relationship, but still, the action, mystery, heart-break and shock/awe-causing goodness, this book will leave you begging for the next book, so better have it handy ;)

  1. I read Cinder and didn't LOVE it, but I did like it. I've heard this one is even better and I keep meaning to read it. My daughter, Reagan, absolutely loves this series. Maybe I should try them on audiobook. I've heard they're good. Thanks for the review and keeping this on my radar!! One more good review!
