THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT Blog Tour Review

A year ago, Flynn Cormac and Jubilee Chase made the now-infamous Avon Broadcast, calling on the galaxy to witness LaRoux Industries' corruption. A year before that, Tarver Merendsen and Lilac LaRoux were the only survivors of the Icarus shipwreck, forced to live a double life after their rescue.
Now, at the center of the galaxy on Corinth, all four are about to collide with two new players in the fight against LRI.
Gideon Marchant is an underworld hacker known as the Knave of Hearts, ready to climb and abseil his way past the best security measures on the planet to expose LRI's atrocities. Sofia Quinn, charming con artist, can work her way into any stronghold without missing a beat. When a foiled attempt to infiltrate LRI Headquarters forces them into a fragile alliance, it's impossible to know who's playing whom--and whether they can ever learn to trust each other.
With their lives, loves, and loyalties at stake, only by joining forces with the Icarus survivors and Avon's protectors do they stand a chance of taking down the most powerful corporation in the galaxy---before LRI's secrets destroy them all.
The New York Times best-selling Starbound trilogy comes to a close with this dazzling final installment about the power of courage and hope in humanity's darkest hour.

Before you can any further, let me ask you a question:

Have you read These Broken Stars or This Shattered World yet?

If your answer is "no" please exit this blog immediately and purchase those two books.

Trust me, I'm doing you a favor.

If you have read those books and you're just curious about my thoughts on this amazing final book in the series, than you may proceed.

And, I will try to be as spoiler-free as I can, even if I want to gush as much as possible. Let's be honest, this review is all GUSH.

The things I loved about this book are numerous, too numerous to fill just one blog post. I will try, however, to be as succinct as possible.

And because I'm incapable of stringing together actually paragraphs that don't end in a million exclamation points, I'm going to list the ways I love this book for your convenience (and mine).

1. I love this book because of the world-building. Hands down, each time I opened a book in this series, i was blown away by the incredible amount of thought that goes into each and every nook and cranie in this world. The politics, the dress, the language, everything is just so perfect. It's not so far from our own world that we get distracted by the detail but yet far enough to make us wonder about spaceships, whispers, and other planets.

2. THE WRITING. Oh god, the writing is perfect. It's a take no prisoners kind of prose. It isn't too flowery or too sparse, it tells you what you need to know in the way that steals your breath when something terrible happens and lets your heart soar when something amazing happens.

3. The characters. Despite the ongoing pattern--boy meets girl (usually with some odd meet cute), something horrible happens to draw them together, they hate each other, and fall in love--Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner have created six separate, amazing characters. By the middle of the character, they have me wanting to follow each character, whether it be Tarver or Lee or Gideon, to the ends of the 'verse and back. I'd literally read a scene of them reading the phone book.

4. The pacing--these ladies don't fool around. Things happen and happen fast. I was never ever bored with this book, in fact, I almost was late to work on several occasions because I stopped to read at breakfast. I'm constantly awed by the authors' ability to make things happen in this story, how the characters come to life at such a speed that I'd happily lose minutes or even hours just reading about them.

5. The continuation--I adore when authors' add little clues and call-backs to things in a series. I think it's hard to do--especially when there's so much to keep track of--but Amie and Meagan are amazing at it. And of course, the continuation allows for recurring characters. And I love the reappearance of two of my favorites.

6. The covers--I have to mention the love for the covers.

7. I loved Sofia. I think she's great and real. I know that her grifting abilities might make someone thnk she's a Mary Sue but I love how confident (yet broken), how badass (yet struggling) that she is. I loved her strength and her pain and her goodness, despite her revenge mission.

8. Gideon. At first I had a hard time not seeing him as a nerdy hacker (bad stereotype, Brianna!) but as I read, I really found that I loved the enigma he is. The Knave, the prodigal son, the grieving brother. I loved every side of him, even if I didn't love his lying. I loved his decisions at the end and I loved his point of view.

9. The whole experience of reading this book was stellar (pardon the pun). If you haven't, please settle down for the weekend and gobble up these books for the holidays and then gift them to all your friends. It's an incredible, enticing, passionate and worthy read. A YA series doesn't get any better than this, chums.

  2. I've only heard great things about the last book (mostly about the romance). I'm really excited to meet Sofia and Gideon and yes the writing is gorgeous (at least from These Broken Stars and Their Shattered World). And those covers . . .
