Dark-Hunter: an immortal warrior who has traded his soul to Artemis for one moment of vengeance on his enemies. In return, they swear to spend eternity protecting mankind from the daimons and vampires that prey on them. Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. To make things worse, he's very conscious of his aristocratic background and breeding. So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux. She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention Tabitha is also the sister-in-law of Kyrian, a former Dark-Hunter and Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires-and soon she and Val have to grapple with the deadliest of all Daimons - one who's managed to come back from the dead, and one who holds a serious grudge against both of them. To win against evil, Val will have to loosen up, learn to trust, and put everything on the line to protect a man he hates and a woman who drives him nuts.
Oh man.... things are about to get interesting! Bring on the drama!!!
When I first read the summary of this book, my first thought was, "Oh boy.... Valerius and Tabitha.... how on Earth are Amanda and Kyrian going to react??" Like many of the other characters in the book, I didn't have a high opinion of Valerius, mostly because I loved Kyrian. But after Bride/Vane's book and seeing how he acted toward her, I started thinking there was something else to Valerius. As I read his book, I quickly began to love him and Tabitha and this book quickly became my new favorite!!
First on my list of "why I love this book", the banter between Tabitha and Valerius is hilarious. Plain and simple. This book is the poster book for opposites attract, where fun-loving and crazy meets uptight, serious and controlling. All of this comes in my favorite gift wrapping in the form of "no instant love connection"! We get to see them go through the hills and valleys of becoming acquainted and then caring for one another and then falling in love. For me, it's all about that journey :)
Second on my list, it has probably on of the happiest and best endings I've seen! Lots of love all around for all characters!!! Since I strive for these reviews to be spoiler-free, that's all I will say :)
Third, I still love Kenyon's ability to make you truly care for her characters. I laughed and cried with Tabitha and Valerius through everything. There were heart attacks that caused said heart to leap into my throat and occurrences that generate more questions that they answer (looking at your Acheron).
Lastly, and again.... really trying not to give away any spoilers..... but..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I need to know what happens!!!! How is this going to affect Kyrian and Acheron????? (If that left you thoroughly confused, and slightly interested in reading the book to see what happens.... then my job is done.)
Overall, my new favorite book, as previously stated. So many emotions happened in so little time and I have a bucket load of questions that are begging to be answered, but I'm developing more questions that they are being answered. But that's half the fun with these books and are what keep me crawling back for more!
