Movie Monday: Future Book Adaptations

Hey all! Welcome to Movie Monday! We usually use this to compare movie and books that we have seen/read but today I'm going to tell you about what books you may want to pick up before their movies/TV shows come out later in 2015-2016!

Let's start with the fabulous sequels that are due to come out...

Remember the movie, Maze Runner? Bunch of kids trapped in a maze? It didn't get a whole lot of publicity, which makes me sad because it was a good movie (especially for a book adaptation). Well, if you didn't know, Maze Runner is a trilogy and the sequel, Scorch Trials, hits the big screen September 15, 2015. Not a whole lot of time to catch up on this series but I do recommend the books and the movie :) I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing Teresa in a bigger part.

Let's start with the obvious. Mockingjay Part 2 is set to make it's debut November 20, 2015. I'm personally excited to see one of my favorite actresses, J. Law, finish up this amazing movie series! I read Hunger Games before the movies came out and have been picking apart the movies (like I normally do) but I just can't be disappointed in them. They are great movies even if you read the book before hand. I expect nothing less from the final chapter (so to speak) of Mockingjay :)

This I am excited for! I loved Rick Yancey's, The 5th Wave, and am beyond excited to see what they do with it for the movie. I've seen a few different premier dates so I'm just going to say it's set to come out January 2016. If you haven't read this book yet, get on it! It's like the Walking Dead.... but with Aliens! We will see Chloe Grace Moretz (you may know her from Kickass as Hit-Girl) as Cassie Sullivan and Nick Robinson (Zach from Jurassic World) as Ben Parish. Overall, not a bad cast choice :) I'm excited to see where they take it!!

Like most series --> movie adaptations, the final book will be broken into 2 parts. The first part is scheduled to appear on the big screen on March 18, 2016! I, personally, have procrastinated on the last book so I need to get on this quick. Luckily, I have some time. Like Hunger Games, I've been trying to read the books before watching the movies and have been slightly disappointed in the movie adaptations. As a movie, they aren't bad and it is obvious why they have a huge following. But comparing it to the books... I'm just not impressed. I think with these next few movies I will concentrate more on watching it as a movie instead of one based off a book.

If you are a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia, you are about to get excited! We are apparently skipping The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and are getting The Silver Chair, set to come out sometime in 2016. It does take off from Prince Caspin but this time we have 3 friends, Eustace Scrubb, Jill Pole, and Puddleglum, who set off on a journey to rescue King Caspin's son. Should be an interesting movie and is definitely something to keep an eye out for.

There we have some big names to look out for on the big silver screen in the coming year! But how about the small screen? Here are some book to TV show adaptations to keep a look out for ;)

We are getting a second shot at enjoying The Moral Instruments!! After the flop of a movie, I'm happy that this series is getting a second chance! We will see Katherine McNamara (who will also be in Scorch Trials as Sonya) as Clary Fray and Dominic Sherwood (who played Christian Ozera in Vampire Academy) as Jace Wayland. A pretty interesting cast and also appearing on ABC Family has me all giddy inside for this!! I, again, have found many different premier dates for this so I will say keep an eye out in Early 2016!

The popular series by Tahereh Mafi is finally getting it's small screen debut!!! I prefer book --> TV show adaptations personally since the producers aren't really limited by how long the adaptation should be. Mafi posted on Twitter in June saying the series rights has been sold to ABC Signature Studios and that she is consulting a producer for the show! If the show is a go, we can expect to see this fabulous TV show appearing sometime in Fall 2016!! Plenty of time to read through the series!

This breaks my trend of YA books --> movie/TV show adaptations but I can't help it! I'm a Ward fan! For all my fellow Warden fans, I'm happy to share that the rights to her newest series, the Bourbon Kings, was sold to NBC in hopes of gracing us with a TV show!!!!...... at some point.....Yes, I do not have a more specific date but the news was just released from the Warden herself on Facebook a week ago. Also sadly, she does not have any potential actors in mind :'(

What do you think about these future book to movie/TV show adaptations?? What are you excited for? What are you dreading? Have you heard of any others not listed here?? Share below!!

Cover Envy

So we all know how much I love Shatter Me, and how I adore Tahereh Mafi, and if you didn't know that then now you do. Recently she released the cover of the German edition of Shatter Me, and I have total cover envy. I mean look at this cover.

It's so pretty that it hurts. Now, I'm just in luck because I have two friends that are venturing to Germany during July, and all I can do is hope that they love me enough to bring this back to me. Now, before you go all "Hey wait, I know that cover!" let me stop you there. This is the same cover as Carrier of The Mark by Leigh Fallon. See below:

I'm not sure why Mafi's cover makes me so excited when Carrier of the Mark doesn't seem to do anything for me. Maybe it the subtle differences like the city in the background and the blue just being darker. But this does bring up an interesting point on book covers. They're all just stock photos used to create the cover, so its not like one of them stole the cover from the other. Goodreads has a List called Cover Couples. Here are a few others:

Spring Into The Future Giveaway!

So on Sunday I got to go into the city for a book signing that I have been super pumped about, well, since Tahereh Mafi posted about it on Twitter. So not only was it with Tahereh Mafi who wrote Shatter Me, (which I rave about too much) but there was also Lauren Oliver (Liesl & Po, Before I Fall, Delirium, Pandemonium) and Anna Carey who wrote Eve and last, but certainly not least, Under The Never Sky's own Veronica Rossi.

The name of this tour was Spring Into the Future (Get it, they're all dystopian books?) and it was really cool, it was the first book signing, reading that I've been to in a long time. (The last one was Summer Sanders with Champions are Raised, Not Born) I still enjoyed it never the less and I plan on going out to more of them now that I'm home. So check out the pictures from the visit to Books of Wonder in NYC. (Ps. Sorry the pictures are so strangely aligned, sometimes I just hate Blogger.)

Some TOTALLY AWESOME SWAG from Tahereh Mafi.
(She posted pictures of this on Facebook, and I really wanted
this one and I was so pumped that I got it!)
I'm also convinced that the page on the top is from
Unravel Me but that could just be wishful thinking.

So for the really exciting part, I got two posters signed by the authors, one for myself and one for my sister's school! ONE OF THEM CAN BE YOURS! Check out below for details! I'VE DECIDED TO MAKE THIS INTERNATIONAL!

Divergent

Author: Veronica Roth
Goodreads Rating: 4.40
My Rating: 4/5 Stars
Pages: 487 pages

This book has been blowing up my recommendations page and just happened to be another book club book. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to stomach another YA Dystopian book, It would appear that this type of writing has taken off lately, between the Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Shatter Me, and a whole host of other series that are centered around the idea that the world is going to change in the future. Clearly I was pleased with this book, and think that there are actually a lot of lessons that could be learned in this book.

Synopses from Goodreads:

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Top 5 Series

I have read a lot of books in my short 20 years without including every book that I've read, my Goodreads.com total of read books is 488. Of course, that includes children's books, but still book's that I've read. Some of them have made a huge impact on me and they're counted among my favorite books. Since its been a while since I've read some of them a while a go, I won't include a full blog post about them, but here are some of my top books. I've also decided that I'm going to do a separate post for individual books because series and individual books are so different.

Far From Here

Author: Nicole Baart
Average Goodreads Rating: 3.83/5
My Rating: 5 our of 5 stars
Pages: 352
Release Date: February 7, 2012

One of the advantages of having a mom who works as a bookseller is I get to read a lot of great books that are Advanced Reader Copies (also known as an ARC). Some of my favorite books have been found because of these types of books including The Midnighters Series by Scott Westerfield, Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz, Aftertime by Sophie Littlefield, and Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Luckily for you its not going to be too long before this book comes out because it is a great read, and a book that I think people should read. For this book, I'm going to go very light on the spoilers because its not readily available.

Synopses from Goodreads.com:

How long do you hold on to hope?
Danica Greene has always hated flying, so it was almost laughable that the boy of her dreams was a pilot. She married him anyway and together, she and Etsell settled into a life where love really did seem to conquer all. Danica is firmly rooted on the ground in Blackhawk, the small town in northern Iowa where they grew up, and the wide slashes of sky that stretch endlessly across the prairie seem more than enough for Etsell.  But when the opportunity to spend three weeks in Alaska helping a pilot friend presents itself, Etsell accepts and their idyllic world is turned upside down. It’s his dream, he reveals, and Danica knows that she can’t stand in the way. Ell is on his last flight before heading home when his plane mysteriously vanishes shortly after takeoff, leaving Danica in a free fall. Etsell is gone, but what exactly does gone mean? Is she a widow? An abandoned wife? Or will Etsell find his way home to her? Danica is forced to search for the truth in her marriage and treks to Alaska to grapple with the unanswerable questions about her husband’s mysterious disappearance. But when she learns that Ell wasn’t flying alone and that a woman is missing, too, the bits and pieces of the careful life that she had constructed for them in Iowa take to the wind. A story of love and loss, and ultimately starting over, Far From Here explores the dynamics of intimacy and the potentially devastating consequences of the little white lies we tell the ones we love.
