This book spent too long sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to give it some attention. When I found out that there was chance that I would meet the author at a book signing this month, I decided that I had to read it before I went, so I added to the top of my to read pile. This book would have taken me 4 hours total to read this. (It came to a little less spanned over two days). Super quick, fun read, that reminded me of my love for dystopian literature.

Goodreads Synopses:

The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

Review to follow the jump.
I really liked this book. It was a nice quick read and it didn't disconnect too far from the world that we were living in now like many dystopian books do. Rather than have this whole changed world we life in with factions and districts, its the beginning of this new world as they rebuild and assert their dominance. As of yet we don't know how far the reach of this new government is, just that its cruel.

Eve attents whats called Schools and in this delightful place, orphan girls are well taken care of-they are taught the dangers of men, they get their shots and vitamins, and they learn all the classics-like Romeo and Juliet, and they learn how Romeo manipulated Juliet and brought about her untimely demise. Through the book several other classics are mentioned like Anna Karanina, The Great Gatsby, and a few others.

I really liked how naive Eve was when it came to things like televisions and what balls were. (The manly kind).  Eve seemed to be a lot more sheltered than her companion, Arden, who seems to have a better understanding of the world that they are now living in. I did expect there to be a love triangle between Eve, Arden and Caleb- their man friend who saves their lives a few times. Luckily nothing developed between the three of them. There was once incident where Lief, the leader of these boy rebels, but thats something that you're just going to have to read about.

There is some romance thrown into this book which makes it an exciting read because it does make things a little more exciting. What is the best though is getting to hear all of Eve's thoughts because she had been taught all her life to only trust her King and now here she is, falling in love with a man that saved her life.

Luckily this series is not doing the requisite one year between releases so the sequel so we get to find out what happened with Caleb and Eve in July. I for one, am waiting with baited breath hoping to know what is going to befall them in this next book.
