Sanctum: Malachi's Journal Day 7

So about two weeks ago, I reviewed Sanctum on the blog, but long before that I read the book and got invited to do a mini blog tour of sorts for some bonus features of the book. I thank Lili and Sarah for inviting me to join this adventure. This special feature includes snippets of the scary guard leader, Malachi's, life before he devoted himself to stopping the Mazikin. Even if you haven't read Sanctum, none of these clips will spoil the goodness that is this book.

"My plan: Get into the city. Get Nadia. Find a way out. Simple."
A week ago, seventeen-year-old Lela Santos’s best friend, Nadia, killed herself. Today, thanks to a farewell ritual gone awry, Lela is standing in paradise, looking upon a vast gated city in the distance – hell. No one willingly walks through the Suicide Gates, into a place smothered in darkness and infested with depraved creatures. But Lela isn’t just anyone – she’s determined to save her best friend’s soul, even if it means sacrificing her eternal afterlife. As Lela struggles to find Nadia, she’s captured by the Guards, enormous, not-quite-human creatures that patrol the dark city’s endless streets. Their all-too human leader, Malachi, is unlike them in every way except one: his deadly efficiency. When he meets Lela, Malachi forms his own plan: get her out of the city, even if it means she must leave Nadia behind. Malachi knows something Lela doesn’t – the dark city isn’t the worst place Lela could end up, and he will stop at nothing to keep her from that fate.

Wait! Since I am not day one, I wanted to make sure that you checked out day's 1-6 first!

Day 7:

Takeshi came to see me today. Philip has a serious sort of demeanor, but Takeshi is different. His smile is quick, and clearly his mind is, too. He spoke to me in German and taught me a few more words in English. He said he has been where I am, that he understands what I'm going through, but I don't see how he possibly could. Not unless his life was stripped from him bit by bit until there was nothing left. Not unless the person he loved best was killed right in front of him. Not unless that person died because of him.  But I did not tell him that. I nodded my head like I was grateful. I want him and Philip to let me out of this room, and I will do whatever is necessary to make that happen.

  1. I just read this book earlier this week and absolutely fell in love with it! My review goes up tomorrow, coincidentally. I have loved this mini tour with the journal entries and have loved getting to know Malachi a bit from when he first got to the city. I feel so horrible for him though!
