Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3)

Author: Marissa Meyer
Goodreads rating: 4.49
Pages: 550
Format: Final Copy
In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

This book covers my "Beam us up, Scotty." square on book bingo.

(For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, please see my post on Book Bingo here --> Book Bingo and play along! It's never too late to start!) Now on with the review!

This was a great continuation from Scarlet and I have to say probably my favorite book so far (narrowly surpassing Scarlet).

I personally love Cress! She's a dreamer, like myself, who dreams of a better life and gives herself courage by fantasizing herself in different scenarios, like an adventurer or an actress. I love how she is reserved but can be plucky as hell when the going gets tough. I especially love her little crush on Thorne! It's so cute!!! They really mesh so well, I can't think of a better pairing (I especially love Thorne's witty and sarcastic nature so I quite like the opposites attract feature). It's too hard to give Thorne and Cress the "favorite couple" title... This is probably one series where I honestly cannot pick a favorite pairing because I love them all >.< There are things I love about each pairing that make that honor too difficult to give away.

The book really relates back to the Grimm's tale of Rapunzel. There is the obvious girl being trapped in a tower (satellite) since she was small, taken from her parents. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I encourage you to read the Grimm's tale before reading this (it really makes it even more creative in my opinion).

I found I enjoyed Throne/Cress chapters the most just because I loved following their journey :) Like the other books, you also get to see the other main characters to really get the sense of what is going on. You get to see the pain and frustration, the heartbreak and turmoil, the laughs and the humor and experience them with your favorite characters. I always loved how Meyer doesn't overlook secondary characters; every character is perfectly crafted whether they are the main hero/heroine or someone made to help move the plot along. By far one of my favorite authors for characterization.

The book really moves the story along and so much happens in this book I don't know where to start! Between the impending war, Kai's marriage to Levana, Cinder still evading police/military efforts to capture her and her friends... And this just is readdressing past problems! There is a whole mega-ton of new problems that arise that bring trouble, pain, heartache, but also love (ahhhhhhh!!! Can't contain excitement), and new bonds that form between our band of trouble makers. This book does have some romance but it is by no means romance heavy. It's the perfect amount to keep you satisfied and doesn't take away or distract from the overall plot.

This book does a fantastic job setting up for he finale and I can't wait to read it!!!!

  1. I loved Cress!! I thought she was so adorable because everything excited her! It was so cute when she'd get excited over things like trees and fruit. Lol! (: The glimpse of Winter gave me the chills! At first I was like, wow, Winter is a weirdo, and when she explained why she was so odd, I was like omgshhh!! I had forgotten about the lose-your-mind-when-you-don't-use-glamour thing. (: Awesome review!
