BLOG TOUR: The Impostor Queen Review

Author: Sarah Fine
Goodreads Rating: 3.90
Pages: 423

Sixteen-year-old Elli was a small child when the Elders of Kupari chose her to succeed the Valtia, the queen who wields infinitely powerful ice and fire magic. Since then, Elli has lived in the temple, surrounded by luxury and tutored by magical priests, as she prepares for the day when the Valtia perishes and the magic finds a new home in her. Elli is destined to be the most powerful Valtia to ever rule.

But when the queen dies defending the kingdom from invading warriors, the magic doesn’t enter Elli. It’s nowhere to be found.

Disgraced, Elli flees to the outlands, the home of banished criminals—some who would love to see the temple burn with all its priests inside. As she finds her footing in this new world, Elli uncovers devastating new information about the Kupari magic, those who wield it, and the prophecy that foretold her destiny. Torn between the love she has for her people and her growing loyalty to the banished, Elli struggles to understand the true role she was meant to play. But as war looms, she must align with the right side—before the kingdom and its magic are completely destroyed.

Lili of Lili's Reflections got me hooked on Sarah's work a while ago, back when her debut, Sanctum hit shelves. Luckily, Hannah knew how much a fan I was so when she started to organize this tour, she knew I would be perfect for it. I ad been looking forward to this book since it was first announced, and reading it was even better.

How many times on this blog have I said that I'm not really into fantasy? At this point I just need to stop saying it. This entire book drew me in and I was dying to know more about Elli, like what happened that forced her to run and where the magic went. Sarah builds this magical world where people yield ice and fire and where there are secrets that you don't expect.

The cast of characters in this book help to flesh out the story as Elli discovers who she truly is an where her loyalty lies. Her whole being has been ripped away from her and yet, she still does what she can to move forward. This book left a wonderful opening for the next book, and I can't wait to see where Sarah takes the story next.
